A photographer with a vast range and extensive international experience, İstanbul-based Koray Erkaya began his professional career nearly two decades ago. He has worked both as a photographer and director for still and film shooting, from the highly commercial to the avant-garde, from architecture and couture fashion, to fast-paced location based productions.
He has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Photography (1989). He was awarded the Kristal Elma Prize for Best Advertising Photography (1996) and the same year he was selected as the official Camel Trophy photographer for five years. In 2004 he was chosen by the Archive Magazine as one of the Best 200 Advertising Photographers. A year later he has founded Dijipost, an ultra-sophisticated lab offering the highest level of photo, film and video retouching, manipulation, special effects and illustration in the region.
He directed and produced a fashion lifestyle programme, entitled, ‘Sihirli Eller’ on TV in 2008. In 2010, he was awarded by Medicat Mag for the Best Advertising Photograph ‘Swim Uğur, Who is Going to Catch You’ linked to a Paralympics games campaign. His second solo exhibition called ‘Don’t Tell Mama’ was displayed in İstanbul, Paris (Galeri Kiron, 2011) and Russia (Lenin Art Centre). Erkaya, then, was invited to ‘Festival European de la Photo de Nu’ with regards to the achievements about the same photo series. His last solo exhibition ‘Self-Touches’ was held in Piramid Sanat, İstanbul.
